Dear Friends,

My tech friend who set up my email many years ago has been very sick for over two years, so no longer is able to help me.

He set up my email using Thunderbird - it is using a domain name email that is actually using Gmail (my email doesn't say "gmail.com".

Google has been sending Google Workspace emails that I do not understand for years.

Can my Windows XP computer use an OAuth2 Authentication Method instead of the current "Normal password" setting under "Server Settings", or do I need to move my email to a computer with a newer version of Windows.

For a few days people with Gmail accounts are not getting my emails, but people with other types of emails are. I am still able to receive emails, but am mystified as to why my emails are not being received by Gmail email users.

I can send emails from my Windows 10 laptop (using us Gmail with my domain name email) to my XP, but not from the XP.

Please help me. Can I just change it in the server settings and it will work, or do I have to sign out of Thunderbird (don't know how to do that) and reopen Thunderbird (don't know how to do that) and then change it to OAuth2?

Does OAuth2 work on an XP?

Thank you for helping me. I need to be able to use my XP Thunderbird email - I haven't copied it to the Win10 laptop yet in Thunderbird there.

Liz

OAuth2 is a Thunderbird option, not a Windows XP option. What version of Thunderbird are you running on XP? You need to migrate your online activity from Windows XP to 10, but if you insist on staying put with XP, then you're extremely limiting the support you would be get from here and other community support forums.

Thank you for your reply, although it did not answer my question.

I am running version 52.9.1 (32-bit) on my XP.

How do I migrate to Window 10 from my XP? Will I be able to keep my address book in Thunderbird? When I am in Gmail my Thunderbird address book is not there.

I miss my tech friend. He knew how to do XP things.

Please help me. Thank you.

The solution may be to install the current version of Thunderbird on the Windows 10 laptop, set as IMAP so that all your email is synced with Gmail to the laptop, then stop using the XP for secure functions like accessing Gmail. I believe from an earlier question that you do have Thunderbird set as IMAP - which means that all the email you see in Thunderbird is also still in Gmaol online, and can be transferred / synced from there to a new installation of TB on the laptop. Just a suggestion, back to Stans.

Thank you, Agnes.

I don't want to lose my address book or the TB directory set up that is on my XP, so I have to copy the whatever file (there is a hard to understand article about how to do this) on my XP onto a USB stick and then copy that particular file in TB on the Win10 laptop.

Now, any email that I send to anyone with a Gmail email doesn't get it or it goes straight to spam, even though I have been sending them emails for years.

I don't know why this is happening now. TB did crash the other day, so I don't know if TB has caused this problem or if Google is causing it because I haven't switched their GSuite that I will have to pay money for yet.

I hope that someone can help me figure this out.

Just installing TB new - will my old address book be there or will it be a blank TB?

Thank you so much!

I didn’t answer because in my opinion, whether Windows XP can use OAuth2, is the wrong question. My answer to it is of no consequence to how much help I can offer in that regard. In other words, I have nothing to offer you if your intention is to continue using Windows XP for “secure” communications via the internet. I’ll readily assist in migrating your Thunderbird usage to Windows 10, though.

Will I be able to keep my address book in Thunderbird?

Yes. All Thunderbird data will remain exactly as is, not just your address book.

I have to copy the whatever file (there is a hard to understand article about how to do this) on my XP onto a USB stick and then copy that particular file in TB on the Win10 laptop.

Actually, it’s a folder that you need to copy. Your Thunderbird profile folder, to be exact, or rather, its contents. It’s a simple copy and paste operation that I’m sure you can do. There are a few extra steps to take, but they are not very complicated.

Google has been sending Google Workspace emails that I do not understand for years

Perhaps it's time you paid more attention to them. Here's a good place to start https://support.google.com/domains/search?q=google+workspace. If the search results do not relate with the subject of those emails, just use the search box in that webpage to search for additional help.
