Remembering trusted device
Good Day When I log into some secure sites and it sends me a verification code to enter and I enter it. I am then asked if I want to add this device to the trusted device list so that I won’t have to verify it anymore, I check off yes. The next time I go on the same site it once again asks me to verify. Is there something in the settings of Firefox that is not set up right so that these sites remember this device has been added to the trusted list? I have tried this on Microsoft edge and it works. But I prefer Firefox.

Hi Wayne, another way to add a cookie exception is as follows:
While you are on the relevant page, you can call the Page Info dialog using either:
- Ctrl+i (for Mac, Command+i)
- right-click a blank area of the page > View Page Info
- (menu bar) Tools > Page Info
When the dialog comes up, click the Permission icon at the top to show that panel.
Scroll down to "Set Cookies" and uncheck the "Use default" box, and then select Allow to let the site set persistent cookies.
Also, make sure you do not have Firefox set to "Clear history when Firefox closes" down in the History section of the Options page. That feature ignores exceptions.

Hi whawkes, after you successfully complete that second authentication, the site sets a cookie in the browser. As long as the browser can show the site that cookie at login, then you do not need to repeat the extra step.
Sometimes users crank up the privacy settings in Firefox in a way that causes these cookies to get deleted between sessions. Do you remove or limit any type of history in Firefox? Do you use any cookie-related add-ons?
Thanks for your quick response. IT took me awhile to respond as I tried various security settings. I was on the STRICT setting at first. I than added the web address to the exemption list and waited a day and that didn't work. Next I lowered the setting to SAFE and waited a day and still no luck. I do have " Delete cookies and site data when Firefox is closed" checked off so next I will uncheck this box and try again. I will let you know what if this works.

I followed the steps in your 2nd post. the "Set Cookies " was checked. I than found that the " delete cookies and site data when Firefox is closed" was checked. I unchecked it and now the problem appears to be solved. Thanks again for your help.

If you have set "Delete cookies and site data when Firefox is closed" then you should keep cookies with an allow exception. Only if you use "Clear history when Firefox closes" to clear the Cookies and the Site Preferences then you lose all cookies.
- clearing "Site Preferences" clears exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, and software installation and exceptions for passwords and other website specific data
- clearing "Cookies" will remove all selected cookies including cookies with an allow exception you may want to keep
