When I try to open a PDF file I get the following message: The file could not be opened. Please save the file to your local storage and then try to open it. When I touch okay I get a flash of a downloading bar and nothing is downloaded.

Open up your file manager app. Look in the downloads folder in that app for the file you downloaded. That's the default location for downloaded files. But if you manually specified a different folder for downloads on your device, then look for that folder instead. most people don't, so check in Downloads first if you don't remember doing that.

Sometimes downloaded files have randomized or generic names. This can make them harder to identify the file you are looking for by name. Sorting by date can help this if there are multiple files, because if you just downloaded the file, the file you are looking for is probably the first file listed. You can also sort by date to get that file to the top. There is usually a menu with sorting options in file manager applications. once you find the file, then follow the process to open it from the file manager app.

if you downloaded it several times, you may run into this:

downloadedfile.pdf downloadedfile1.pdf downloadedfile2.pdf

...and so on... in your listing. if this happens, your device created duplicates and added the number at the end. if you downloaded a large file, several times, you can safely delete to duplicates to save space on your device. You might open those files before deleting them to double check they are duplicates if you are feeling cautious.

I hope this works for you.

I have the same issue too. It's not that we don't know where Firefox is downloading to on our device, it's that FF doesn't let the PDF download happen at all. This happens about half of the times I try, so I then have to open Chrome and do my PDF download from there.

Not only doesn't FF open the PDF files, but it offers no way to save them to your device, as the message suggests. This doesn't happen on any of my other browsers, so I have to think this is a FF issue.

And I just tried this again from another website - this time my local phone company - and again Firefox gave me an error message and didn't allow the PDF file to be downloaded or opened on my tablet!

I have put in yet another request to Mozilla, and I do hope they figure out what the issues is, soon. It's just a pain in the butt to keep have to go back to Chrome to vew PDF files!

Still, even with a few updates, Firefox continues to be a pain in the butt in terms of accessing PDF files - and it seems no one from FF or Mozilla gives a rat's patootie about it!

I can't use FF to get PDF files from most of the financial institutions I deal with - I get an odd message that I should try to first download the PDF file and then view it! But the issue is FF for Android doesn't allow this download in the first place!

So, once again I have to switch to Chrome in order to do my normal banking / financial transactions.
