Firefox 57 has disabled several add-ons that I use:

In order of importance"

1) FlashGot 2) Restartless Restart 3) Classic Theme Restorer 4) Menu Wizard 5) Places Maintenance

I realize that it is difficult to support all of the add-on's that get "added on" but 1 and 2 above are very popular.

Hopefully these can be looked at by Mozilla for inclusion.

1) FlashGot

I didn't search much. This alternative has terrible reviews, so maybe it's harder than it looks: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/bulk-media-downloader/

2) Restartless Restart

This sounds like a contradiction. What?? There is a restart button on the about:profiles page, so you could bookmark that page for two-click access. (It's labeled "Restart normally...")

3) Classic Theme Restorer

You will need to cobble together custom style rules for most of this. Aris has a set here: https://github.com/Aris-t2/CustomCSSforFx

I have rules for address bar and search bar if you want to take a look:

4) Menu Wizard

What did you use this for?

See if this works.

Users on Firefox Quantum, which normally only works with Web Extensions (a new type of plugin architecture), can enable support for legacy add-ins through about:config, search for extensions.legacy.enabled and set it to true.

Otherwise you will have to contact the Addon maker and ask them to update to FF57 as it seems FF57 is breaking older Addons without much to replace them.

Here are your choices; 1) Contact its support and ask if they will update 2) Find a replacement 3) Downgrade to a prior Firefox 4) Do without

5) Places Maintenance That is now built in to Firefox, for a few versions now.'

See Places Database - Integrity Check in Help > Troubleshooting Information and scroll-down like 3/4 of that page,

1) FlashGot I didn't search much. This alternative has terrible reviews, so maybe it's harder than it looks: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/bulk-media-downloader/ I have already tried this - it is terrible. Bill 2) Restartless Restart This sounds like a contradiction. What?? There is a restart button on the about:profiles page, so you could bookmark that page for two-click access. (It's labeled "Restart normally...") This add-on restarts all open browser pages with one click and returns them to current open tabs. FF 57 now only allows one browser session to be restarted. The add-on removes all FF hooks from memory with one click and returns all tabs. FF57 does not really allow for this. If you close two browser sessions and then do a restart, you only get "remembrance" of the last session closed. Bill 3) Classic Theme Restorer You will need to cobble together custom style rules for most of this. Aris has a set here: https://github.com/Aris-t2/CustomCSSforFx I have rules for address bar and search bar if you want to take a look: Thanks - I will look.. Bill 4) Menu Wizard What did you use this for?

I used it to remove some of the extra drop down menu choices when right clicking on different sections of a tab session. Bill Mason

And to: FredMcD comments: "Here are your choices; 1) Contact its support and ask if they will update 2) Find a replacement 3) Downgrade to a prior Firefox 4) Do without"

These comments are not helpful. The post I made was made for two reasons; 1) Seeking alternatives that someone might know. 2) Basically commenting on changes that sometimes are negative to users.

A product improves if it continues to go forward; but 1 step forward and 2 steps back is the wrong direction.

jscher, thanks for the suggestions. Bill

By default, Firefox remembers up to 3 closed windows when you restore your previous session. You can find "Recently Closed Windows" and "Recently Closed Tabs" either:

  • Using the "Library" button on the toolbar, History submenu. (This button looks like some books on a shelf.)
  • Using the History menu on the classic menu bar. Tap the Alt key or the F10 function key to activate the menu bar temporarily if you don't normally display it.

Rather than have to worry about open vs. closed windows, it's easier to set Firefox to restore your previous session automatically in your Startup settings (Startup, home page, tabs, and download settings) and exit Firefox using the menu, either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "power" button
  • (menu bar) File > Exit

Again thanks for the options. These all work and I use them.. The add-on Restartless Restart did all of this with a simple 1 click option.

It didn't matter the number of sessions or tabs. Just click, "File, Restart" and it was all done.

This is what add-on's do.. They take all of the multiple step "hidden" options of FF and turn them into a simple "1 click" accomplishment.

I'll do it the hard way for now awaiting the re write of the add-on's that have made things better..

But again thanks for the suggestions.

My main reason again for my post is that the authors of FF should really attempt to know how the product is used. Add-on's are here because the basic product doesn't do it well..

Such is the "saga" of "free" software.. I do understand that everything can't be covered. However, developers rarely know about what users actually do with the product, their off in their own world.
