Hi,

I have Thunderbird 38.4.0 on Windows 7. I have four gmail accounts that all receive emails through google as I expect. I have a very distracting problem though when I SEND emails. No matter which account is "selected" or which email address is listed as the "Sender" all emails written in Thunderbird are sent as though they came for the last account I added to Thunderbird.

To recap: when I try to send an email I often look at my list of "in boxes". There are four listed. I select one then click "Write". A new email dialogue window comes up. The Sender field is correctly populated. The Reply-to field is correctly populated. I enter my message and then send it. In the sending process the Sender is changed from the one I specified to the "identity" of the last account added to Thunderbird.

This also happens if I just click "Write" and select the Sender from the dropdown.

I have checked the account settings in Thunderbird and on the Gmail side of things. Everything looks Ok.

So you don't know which smtp server each account is using.

Go to Tools|Account Settings

Go to the bottom of the list of accounts, select Outgoing Server (SMTP).

Review each of your gmail smtp server settings (using "Edit") and give it a distinctive description. Then review the individual incoming accounts again to see which smtp server setting each incoming account is using.

If you have 4 incoming gmail accounts, you need 4 matching outgoing ("SMTP") accounts, each using the username/email address associated with its incoming account. I suspect you have a single gmail smtp account, and googlemail will override whatever name/account you use with the one associated with the smtp account.

Thanks, I do have four SMTP accounts. Tools->Account Settings lists them all. Under each account's "Account Settings" and "Server Settings" there seem to be correct values for each different account.

And under Account Settings|Outgoing Server (SMTP):?

You need an explicit server name there, not "default". And the same user name as the incoming "email address" higher up. I label my smtp servers so I can tell them apart.

Under each, that setting is "Goodle Mail - smtp.googlemail.com".

Another bit of info: when I send an email out as "Account-1@gmail.com" the Reply-to field is populated with "Account-1@gmail.com". When it arrives the resulting set of email headers has the correct Reply-to filed but the From address is changed to "Account-4@gmail.com"

Thank you. That seems to have fixed it
