Successfully downloaded firefox on mac 10.7 but when i open it a get a drop down from the tool box stating:

Authentication Required: The proxy moz=proxy://207.244.89.108.443 is requesting a username and password. The site says: "anonymox.net"

and then...

The proxy server is refusing connections Firefox is configured to use a proxy server that is refusing connections.

   Check the proxy settings to make sure that they are correct.
   Contact your network administrator to make sure the proxy server is working.

Ive tried the suggestions on the viewer HELP but to no avail. I have made a moxilla/firefox account but never have i been asked for a username. I have tried my email address but no luck. Also i should mention i am in China, so not sure if that has anything to do with it.

I can see an addon on your toolbar that looks like it is related to this issue. Try removing it from Firefox. If it doesn't show up in the addons section, it may be in the plugins section.

Sorry to hear about the issue that you are having.

Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a Clean reinstall. This means you remove your Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. This process does not remove your Firefox profile data (such as bookmarks and passwords), since that information is stored in a different location.

To do a clean reinstall of Firefox, please follow these steps: Note: You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.

  1. Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from mozilla.org (or choose the download for your operating system and language from this page) and save the setup file to your computer.
  2. After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (or open the Firefox menu New Fx Menu and click the close button Close 29).
  3. Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    • Windows:
      • C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
      • C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
    • Mac: Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
    • Linux: If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see Install Firefox on Linux. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder firefox in your home directory.
  4. Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
    1. Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
    2. Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.

More information about reinstalling Firefox can be found here.

WARNING: Do not use a third party uninstaller as part of this process. Doing so could permanently delete your Firefox profile data, including but not limited to, extensions, cache, cookies, bookmarks, personal settings and saved passwords. These cannot be easily recovered unless they have been backed up to an external device! See Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles.

Please report back to say if this helped you!

Thank you.

Type about:preferences#advanced<Enter> in the address bar.

Under Advanced, Select Network. Look for Configure How Firefox Connects and press the Settings button. If you are using a proxy, make sure those settings are correct. If there is no proxy, first use No Proxy. If there is a problem, then try System Proxy.

Some problems occurs when your Internet security program was set to trust the previous version of Firefox, but no longer recognizes your updated version as trusted. Now how to fix the problem: To allow Firefox to connect to the Internet again;

  • Make sure your Internet security software is up-to-date (i.e. you are running the latest version).
  • Remove Firefox from your program's list of trusted or recognized programs. For detailed instructions, see

Configure firewalls so that Firefox can access the Internet. {web link}

I have tried the suggestions above and yet no progress. Once the drop down screen appear from anonymox.net requesting a username and password i cannot navigate the page. My only option is to quit firefox. I used firefox in the past and deleted the browser from my apps. Must've been a reason for me to delete it. Perhaps i had a username and password for anonymox.net? But there is no option to retrieve it! What is the differences between Mozilla, firefox and anonymox?
