Firefox won't recognize latest update HP simple pass

I have tried everything and about just to say the heck with it and go back to IE9. But, I will ask. WHY does Firefox refuse to recognize the latest upgrade to HP simple pass (Egistech) that is loaded onto my computer. It keeps saying the current 5.0 version is not recognized. Ok, I understand this, but I have loaded version 7.1 and firefox evidently cannot see it and keeps telling me 5.0 is installed. Am I doing something wrong, or is Firefox just worthless and IE9 is the way to go?
