Firefox aggressively filters NFC URI intents away from other apps

I have an NFC tag with a URI record, which when interrogated (scanned) generates an intent with a URI record as well as other NFC records. Normally (e.g. when just Chrome was installed), I would get a pop-up option of handling the intent with an app that filters for the specific URI, or handling it using Chrome. I can then select e.g. "always" handle this URI intent using the app that filters for it.

After installing Firefox, I never get this option; instead the intent is handled by Firefox which opens the URI. This is undesirable behavior, and I cannot stop it by going into system settings | apps | Firefox | clear defaults

I'm using Android 7.1.2 on an LG Nexus 5X; stock Firefox Mobile installation.
