Thunderbird 38.2.0 - copy and paste: pasted words end up on next line, not where I wanted to paste them, why?

This happens when I'm copying words from the same screen in Tbird, like when I'm replying to an email, and copy in a few words from the email into my reply.

I can copy in from Word correctly - what I copy in appears where I put it, and not on the next line.

This did not happen on my previous version of Tbird
