Import Contacts from CSV file doesn't work

I am trying to import contacts from a csv file. I went to Address Book, Tools, Import, then I chose Address Books. Next, Text file, Next, browsed and found my csv file, and clicked Open. I got a box called Import Address Book, but the column under Record Data to Import is completely blank. The Address Book Fields are all there and are correct, but there is nothing in the right column. If I click OK from this spot, I get a box that says "an error occurred importing addresses..." The name of the file I tried to import is listed under All Address Books, but it is empty.

I have opened the csv file in Excel and the first line is the field names as it should be, and the data is all there. I can't see anything wrong with the file but it won't import.
