On one of my Macs shift-command-f brings a search box that is missing the "To, From, CC, or BCC" option. How can this be fixed?

I run Thunderbird on ~5 Macs and PCs. I am old fashioned and use the brute force search option which you get by edit->find->find messages or option-command-f on a Mac. On one of my Macs a number of the search field options are missing. In particular the "From, To, CC, or BCC" option is missing. I have looked carefully on the Thunderbird support pages, the web, and in the config editor and have not be able to fix this. Any hints on how to restore these missing search fields would be appreciated.
