Every time I upgrade to a newer version from 3.6 it takes Firefox a long time to start from my desk top, why?

The newer versions such as 4.0 and 5.0 run fine AFTER they launch, but they take a long time to launch when I click on the icon on my desktop. All other browsers including Firefox 3.6 launch immediately, I have had my PC checked it is not the problem. Is there a patch that I need to download?
