Often, when I try to search on Google using the search bar, Firefox will load and load and load... and then fail to actually load up Google and search my query.

It doesn't matter if I do this on a new tab or an existing one, it will load and load for probably about 15-20 seconds, and then acts as if I didn't try to do anything at all.

Once it's had it's moment, and successfully fails to load Google, I can try again and it will instantly load Google when I try again, and will continue to do so for a while.

While this issue is happening, I can load any other website just fine. It only affects Google searches using the address bar.

Any idea on a solution or anything I can try to stop this issue occuring?

Hi, I tried recently to download some files that I had stored online on some cloud storage sites. One of them was over 4 GB in size, and the download would not complete. I tried a couple of times on that file, and every time the download failed just before the 4 GB total appeared in the download notice section. I checked online to see if others were having the same problem, and I found a few who were, but there was no solution posted. Is this a specific feature of Firefox, and is there anyway to increase the file size limit in your browser registry?

Hello guys,

I started having a weird problem a few months ago. Since I was overwhelmed with work and travels in the past months I just found a quick workaround by using Chrome, but I'm much more used to Firefox than Chrome I'd like to solve this issue once and for all.

So I'm getting 99% of my work on Fiverr. I'm averaging between 20 and 40 orders per month meaning that I need to upload all sorts of files everyday. Whenever I click the 'attach' button, doesn't matter whether in the message section or in the delivery section my entire browser freezes. Even if I waited for some time (I've tried up to 60 minutes), it wouldn't unfreeze. Same in private window, same if I disable all addons. I even refreshed Firefox, but the problem persists.

In Chrome or Edge the problem doesn't exist. Neither does it on my mobile device. Not sure how to troubleshoot that.

Any ideas?

Thank you!

Hi, from many time (some months ago) I have this problem: sometimes (well, actually very often, but not always) when I start firefox it runs in “Private browsing” mode.

The problem happens both if I click on the icon in the gnome dock, and if I run firefox from the terminal. In both situations, the problem happens sometimes, and some times not.

When I launch it from the terminal, the output is the same, either if I see the bug or not.

The problem has already been reported on the Fedora support site, too.

What can I do to sort it out? Thank you very much

Please tell me if it is possible to cap the amount of ram assigned to ffox, as it creeps up and up till over 1.3 gigs is being used.

I am referring to having a single webpage open - no tabs and no extensions.

I have shut down the browser, and restarted the laptop but cannot cure this problem.

Inevitably this slows everything down, and the pc fan will run non stop.

Thanks for any help.

I upgraded to 108.01 three days ago. It crashed 3 times in the next two days, accompanied by that popup you get informing you of the crash.

For years I've been using the extraction method of the executable to create a Firefox portable application. Upgrading only involves the install folder. The profile remains untouched, unaltered.

I had an incident of profile corruption a couple months ago, with basically Firefox launching with most features not working, i.e. toolbar buttons, toolbar menus, etc. Yesterday, for a short time, aside from two crashes, I had a similar experience with the buttons, but not quite the same. My default built in Firefox buttons worked, but my extension buttons didn't. I also noticed on a page that I regularly visit, Ublock origin wasn't doing it's regular job of blocking, and the Ublock button was non-responsive.

I'm also in the process of using the Brave Browser for the first time. The reason I'm posting this here about this subject, including a Brave experience, is that at the same time I was experiencing the Firefox erratic behavior, Brave was crashing as well; freezing; tabs not loading.

Considering the Brave tabs not loading, and the temporary Firefox Ublock origin failure, etc., I'm wondering if there might be something in common here? Maybe an internet connectivity issue at the time?

For the last few months (perhaps concurrent with a Firefox update, but I don't remember), Firefox seems to be having problems with Google-sourced stuff. It's intermittent, but the most frequent failures are searches using either the address field or the dedicated search field - much of the time I just get a blank page, and at first it looks like it might be trying to load something, but after awhile the "X" abort icon changes to the reload icon, signaling that it thinks it is loaded or has given up. Success or failure seems to come in waves or phases, not completely random - immediately retrying will usually not work. If I can get to the Google home page by typing "google.com" directly (which has a much better batting average than searching in the address/search fields, although not always), I can search directly on the Google page without trouble for some mysterious reason (perhaps that fills the page using AJAX rather than reloading - I'm not sure). But then clicking on one of the results might not work, because that initially goes to a Google URL before redirecting to the requested page. I've resorted to extracting the page location from that redirection URL just to bypass Google.

Other Google services have problems, too. YouTube's home page usually loads outlines of videos, but sometimes it fails to fill in thumbnails and other details or does so VERY slowly. Occasionally even reCaptcha will fail to load when I'm trying to log into some site that uses it. And even when something appears to fully load and function (e.g. a couple Google Sheets I use daily), often the "stop loading this page" X and hourglass on the tab will remain, indicating that it thinks something is still loading (in that case, it seems to never time out - I either click the X or ignore it). All these types of failures started at the same time, so they seem to have a common cause.

I have not noticed any problems with sources that are not owned by Google. And Chrome and Edge have no problems at all. So apparently it's specifically Firefox and Google that are not getting along. I'm running Firefox 108.0.1 (in PortableApps, although located on my hard drive) on Windows 11.

These failures happen even if I start Firefox in troubleshooting mode (which proves it's not caused by an add-on) or open Google in a private window so that there are no cookies involved. Since Chrome works, I also tried using the User-Agent Switcher add-on to pretend I'm Chrome, but that also has no effect. I expected to see tons of other complaints about this on the web, but there have been surprisingly few, and the only suggestion that seemed relevant (and effective for some people) was to set "security.tls.enable_0rtt_data" to false, but that has not made any noticeable difference in my case.

I waited through a couple Firefox updates, hoping it would just get well, but I've lost patience. Are there any new ideas out there?

The main youtube page loads and displays ok. As soon as a video is played (even in preview), firefox crashes. I'm on Linux Manjaro. other websites with video work fine (for ex Vimeo) I tried disabling all my addons and plugins in the normal mode (not troubleshoot mode) and it still crashes. However, the troubleshoot mode works fine ! Refreshing firefox didn't fix the issue. I have another computer with Linux manjaro and firefox works just fine. I spent a lot of time trying to understand what's wrong but I really don't see why.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I am having a strange audio bug where certain websites have stopped playing audio, or partially stopped playing audio. I have made sure that nothing was preventing it from playing to the best of my knowledge, including checking my settings and troubleshooting mode, but to no effect. If I open the offending tabs in another browser the audio does play.

It first started with a single streamer's Twitch page (and no other stream), and has since spread to Twitter and starting today, Tumblr. I am getting audio without issue from other tabs such as youtube, but I fear this is only going to get worse, not better.

I rather not switch browsers but I'm worried I'll soon have no choice. Thank you for taking time to read this.

Firefox won't start (nor will thunderbird or tor-browser) unless it is a flatpak

System: Arch Linux x86_64 (up to date) Gnome 43.2 Wayland Mesa Intel HD Graphics 530 (SKL GT2) Intel Core i7-6700HQ Nvidia GTX 960M Kernel 6.1.1-arch1-1 Firefox 108.0.1-1 Thunderbird 102.6.1-1 Tor-Browser 12.0.1-1

Description and Steps I Tried to Solve: Around Dec 2 2022 Firefox, Thunderbird and Tor-Browser stopped starting. I moved every cache and config to a new place so it would create new ones and failed the same way. I created a new user for the system and it would fail the same way. Downloaded Firefox from the site and it would fail the same way. Then I downloaded Firefox, Thunderbird and Tor-Browser as flatpaks and those worked fine. I copied my backups profiles over the flatpak newly generated ones and it still was working fine.

What I know at this point: My profiles, cache and configs are not the problem as those worked at flatpak installations. Whatever the problem is it only affects firefox and derivatives installed running directly over the system as flatpaks operates over its own libraries and runtimes. Whatever the problem is no other software seams to be affected by it. It does not look like it is a problem with a newer version of firefox since it has updated a few times since the problem started, both minor and major versions. It looks like it is not a Firefox (and derivatives) problem by itself but something that is wrong with some other dependency in the system.

To be clear: everything was working fine for years up until recently, like 2016-ish.

Note: I know Tor-Browser is not developed by Mozilla. I just mentioned it here as a reference of another application that is derived from Firefox that is showing the same problem.

Logs On trying to execute from the terminal those were the responses I get.

The troubleshooting information attached is from the Flatpak version. I am sending it just for completeness and maybe there is something I am missing that someone can identify.

Previously when my computer would crash, Opening Firefox would give an option to restore the pages (there would be a button I could push). I counted on this feature of Firefox to be able to restore my session and did it for months.

Lately (the last 3 times my computer has crashed) this option has not appeared and trying to locate and retrieve my history has not been easy or possible. I thought I set my computer to always restore and it is not working. How can I be certain that when my computer crashes that I will be able to restore my webpages?
