I've been using Outlook 2010 for a long time. One feature it has that has been extremely useful is being able to open and close individual pst files. This allows me, for example, to have an archive on NAS of old emails. I only open the archive if I'm looking for something specific (File --> Open --> Open Outlook Data File), and then close the archive. The archive is large, and opening it every time Outlook starts is a waste of time.

I don't initially see how, in Thunderbird 91.8.1, to do something similar.

Any help would be appreciated.

I am using TB under Ubuntu 22.04 ONLY because Gnome Evolution is requiring OAuth2 for IMAPX accounts that don't provide such authorization. TB and Outlook 365 (under Win 10) don't have that problem.

TB has a major, major problem in that it will not keep constant font, font-size, and line-spacing when I write or reply to emails. Why can't TB hold an exact font size (e.g., Arial 11). and line spacing (single) when I compose or reply to emails. I have seven (7) email accounts and I should not have to worry about having to set properties for each.

I use Google Workspace as my e-mail provider, and Thunderbird (PoP3 -- there is a good reason why I use PoP and not IMAP) as my e-mail client. This has worked very well for a long time. Yesterday (4/12/22) updated TB from 91.7.0 to 91.8.0. Previously, I would enter my Google Workspace password (only, once per session) to download mail, and my gmail password (only, once per session) to send mail (using Google's SMTP server). After the update, I was asked for both username and password to log into the Google Workspace account, and every time I sent an e-mail I had to provide both username and password for the gmail account. Fortunately, I had set a restore point before the TB update and was able to restore my system to its normal operation. Can you please help me with what is going on, and how to get back to normal operation under the new update? Thank you!

I'm running Windows 10 Pro 10.0.19044 build 19044 (21H2)

The message could not be sent because the connection to Outgoing server (SMTP) mail.twc.com was lost in the middle of the transaction. Try again.

I appreciate that Thunderbird has client-side adaptive Junk filtering. I believe the target audience for this is primarily those who don't filter their own mail. Unfortunately for those of us who do filter our mail, this feature takes priority over other filtering.

Specifically, I'm using Sieve (IMAP/Dovecot) on the server to control filtering, but as soon as mail hits the Thunderbird client it's re-processed. I don't mind if my filters ultimately don't filter some mail item, where it ends-up in the Inbox. Then Thunderbird adaptive filtering may help "adaptively" to flag something that gets through.

Can we do something in Thunderbird to only allow adaptive processing on the top-level Inbox?

As an admin I have just created scripts that will forward mail to me when another user manually moves mail to Junk. This email is dropped into a specific folder under my Inbox so that I can process it with new rules, bans, or even to let the user know that they should simply unsubscribe from that specific list. But most of it is indeed Junk. I don't need adaptive processing to identify it as such, and I don't want my email account profile to adapt to someone else's Junk.

I can set a header for Thunderbird if it would only use that as a "do not use adaptive filtering on this item".

Is there a developer API into this process? Anything else to hook into it to get more control over it?

OR, do I and every other user that uses this server need to turn off Thunderbird adaptive filtering? :(

Thanks.

Thunderbird usually performs very well for me. Although sometimes a new email is received showing a weird timestamp that is obviously incorrect. As an example, right now the time of day at my location is 1:18 EST. So far, my received emails today have times ranging from 5:03 am to 1:16 pm. Except for one. It shows today's date but 5:31 pm. A time in the future. If I look at that same email on my iPhone, it displays a more acceptable time of 9:19 am.

This started occurring about 2 months ago and happens about once a week. All from spam. So this is no big deal but I'm curious why. Does anyone have an explanation? Thanks, Reeka

Hi, Please bear with me, I understand very little! In 2012 the business I work for was taken over by a new boss. The previous one set me up with a new email address which he set to be used with my gmail account.

My new boss wants to move clients but my email account is not included in the addresses she wants to move. Her email addresses are showing up on Eclipse. My email address/account isn't there. The previous boss was using Thunderbird. Is my email account there? Or does it need added to Eclipse?

I have no idea how to access or log in to Thunderbird to see if my address is there?

How do I find out who is hosting my email account?

I have no idea if I have explained this properly. I access my work email through my personal gmail (POP, IMAP???) but have no idea where it really "lives"!

Q: How can I find messages in TB that contain invitations to events? I'd like search quite many mails to find invitations that contain (at best all, or at least unprocessed) events. Preferrably with no etra software besides TB and possibly add-ons.

TB version: 91.8.1

What I have tried so far: (a) edit / find... / search messages: I see no way to achieve this (b) addon "Filter Messages": same as above (c) suggested addon "Filtaquilla": seems to provide actions with found messaes, but not enhance search. (d) inspected plain message source: invitations seem to contain multiple entries for "Content-Type", the last of which is "Content-Type: text/calendar". However, this line does not seem to be part of any searchablefields in (a-c).

Thanks in advance!

I found and archived thread with this Subject-title. First the answer was directing the user to de guide about 'Server settings'. Of course I have been there. I have set up Thunderbird with POP3 accounts en did NOT check the 'Leave mail on the server'-setting as it is by default. This way - if I'm not mistaken - the mail is deleted after download. But all the mail is kept on the server en is not deleted. I've worked with Pegasus too and at that time all (POP3-) mail was deleted after downloading. So I presume the server-side of my provider is set ok. So what do I have to do in Thunderbird to automatically delete downloaded mail? I don't think this has anything to do with the version of (automatically updated) Thunderbird, but I work with v91.8.1 (64-bit) Thanks for any help or suggestion.

Suddenly .... Folders show that they contain messages but the message list window is empty. If I '"repair folder", the list of messages is restored. I have only ever had one email address on Thunderbird for the last 17 years or so and now I have added some more email addresses. Each email address is listed on the left, however, in other email platforms there is a generalised view with inbox, sent., deleted etc., on top of the separate email addresses so that you can see what's come in or gone out without going to each address and dropping down the menu on each one to see if you have emails. Is there a way to arrange this so that one has a general view of all one's email activities on top of the individual addresses just as they have in Outlook or Apple Mail please?

I have a hotmail/outlook account configured as IMAP. Some mail is directly retrieved in the junk folder. Since some legit emails go to the junk folder I always have to browse the folder in order not to miss important mails. Luckily, 90% of my junk mail has always the same reply-to field, so there is a very simple pattern to implement in the filters which would let me get rid of the real 90% of the spam. But then the surprise... the filter I defined, only works when manually run on the junk folder explicitly. This is useless, of course. I feel stupid but I cannot get it to work. So I am asking here how can I accomplish this very basic task. I believe I am missing something...

I have been getting this for a month or so. Thunderbird checks all 4 email addresses I use with my PC (I have one for mail, and 3 I use only for e-transfers between banks). This popup always shows one of the banking addresses. When I click Next is asks me for email address. No matter which one I put in, it fails. So now I just accept that I must X it off every time I start Thunderbird. I use MailwasherPro to check all my email every 10 minutes and reject all the mail I have blacklisted. I think it uses iMap to check the mail, then Thunderbird uses POP to down load mail and delete it from the server. I just checked my password for the troublesome account and found it was incorrect (?). I corrected it but I still get the Google popup. I've gotten used to having to X off the popup before I can read or write mail, but I'd still like to solve the problem. I tried the suggestions in the replies to the 2020 question, but no luck.

Does anyone else have this issue? Last weekend updated Thunderbird and comcast.net IMAP no longer synchronizes. Have tried everything I can think of including deleting account and trying to recreate it. It says "Connected to imap.comcast.net..." and creates a new Inbox on Thunderbird, but does not synchronize. Received a timeout message. Comcast.net IMAP still working on Iphone and also on older version of Thunderbird on laptop. Thank you for any advice you can offer, Kevin
