Why does the latest update not allow searches ie yahoo mail?
My Mozilla Firefox no longer allows searches. When I click on Yahoo Mail for example, nothing happens. Previous to this latest update (Mozilla) I could click Yahoo Mail and get the list of sites in a fraction of a second. Now, it is click and wait forever. So I set a restore point 3 days prior to the update and voila! I can get Yahoo Mail in the usual way. I kept getting notices from Mozilla re: new update, so tonight I allowed the update. As soon as the update was over I happened to click Yahoo Mail. You guessed it, NO Response! So I tried Pinterest, once again NO Response! I then went to the Google box and typed in Yahoo Mail. Presto Bingo! Back to normal once more. So I went back to the Mozilla screen, NO Response. This tells me that the problem is inside the Mozilla update. If I set a restore point again, it will only be a matter of time before I get a request to allow another Mozilla update and I will be back in the same boat. Tractorracer

Does the search bar on the Navigation Toolbar work?
Try to use the SearchReset extension to reset some preferences to the default values.
Note that the SearchReset extension only runs once and then uninstalls automatically, so it won't show on the "Firefox > Add-ons" page (about:addons).
Current Firefox versions use the default search engine (pref: browser.search.defaultenginename) to set the search engine that is used on the about:home page.
Check the browser.search.defaultenginename pref on the about:config page and make sure that it is set to the default value Google.

Could you walk me through the steps to re-create the problem.
Are you starting from the built-in Firefox home page (about:home) and the main search box in the center won't submit the search at all, just acts dead?
Or is the problem once you get the results page?
Or are your bookmarks not working, e.g., on the Bookmarks toolbar or in the menu or sidebar?
I am starting at the built-in start page, the search box acts dead. There are no results. I do not use book marks.Tractorracer

I will try the reset program. In the meantime, yes, all the toolbars work. The only thing that does not work is the SEARCH button on the opening page. I am wondering why the 2 answers so far assume that the problem is with my computer. Why has no one suggested that the person who wrote the code for the update, just go through line by line and re install the activation for the search button. Or am I the only one who has this problem? The reason I think this way is that update = no search, restore point (set to date before update) = search works again, re-install update = no search once more
OK, the reset program worked. I clicked the "Yes" button stating the problem is solved. As a side note, I noticed that after using the reset program, the "Google" logo is now beside the search entry box. The logo was not there before using the reset program, the page was blank.
