when entering website in url it doesn't direct automatically and enter doesn't work..have to hit arrow button in url browser

EXAMPLE: I type in facebook.com in the url and press enter...it doesn't do anything. If it's already in my browsing history, I arrow down and select the site by pressing enter and all it does is put the website in my url. It no longer directs me automatically. I have to go to the URL bar and press the arrow button to navigate to the site.
