After entering a search for site in the Firefox beginning page the typed in information disappears when "enter" is pushed.

When I type in a desired overall search request in the section on the start page the typed in information is deleted and no search results are displayed. For instance, if I type in MG Cars the field just clears. I have used this machine for quite some time now and have never encountered such a problem. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks !
