My cursor keeps freezing after the first click on a page. The only way to free it is to go to another program and come back. Why does it freeze?

The cursor will freeze (still moves, but clicks produce no result and hovering over an html link, etc. does not activate it) and not work on the url line, the firefox menu, or anywhere in the page. I can switch to another program (Firefox is the only one affected), and two out of three times that turns the cursor back on. What could be causing the freezing?
