I have a Blackview Tab16 (10" screen), which I bought last year; it was running Firefox quite happily until a couple of months ago. Now when I click on the icon, I get a sort of 'welcome' screen (with some message about a search widget?) for a fraction of a second, then FF closes and I get an error message saying 'Sorry. Firefox had a problem and crashed.' The version of FF is 126.0. I was told to try clearing the cache, but there is nothing there to clear! The tablet is running Android 12 / DoKe OS V3.0.

I have an 8" Blackview tablet which - despite needing to be plugged in to run all the time! - opens & runs Firefox perfectly happily. It's my main browser on my MacBook as well, and will run on my iPhone.

Hi

I am sorry to hear that Firefox for Android is crashing. I hope that we can help resolve this for you. Before following the steps below, make sure that you have updated both your Android device and Firefox for Android to the latest versions available.

As a first step, close down many of the tabs that you have open to as few as possible. Does this help reduce the incidence of a crash?

If this does not resolve the issue, open the Android Settings app, select Applications then find Firefox in the list. In the section headed "Storage", selct the option to clear the cache (do not clear data!). Does this help?

Failing that, our developers will need to look into this in more detail with some logs from inside your copy of Firefox for Android. Type about:crashes in the address bar which will display information about recent crashes. If you select the most recent "Socorro" link, a crash report will open in a new tab. If you could copy and paste the address of the page that opens into a reply to this thread, we will be able to look into this further for you.

I hope that this helps.

Both Android and FF are at the latest version possible. There is no cache to clear. I CANNOT OPEN FF, therefore I cannot close any tabs! AND I cannot therefore get to an address bar (except in, ugh, Chrome) to type anything in. DID YOU ACTUALLY READ WHAT I WROTE??

Firefox updated to 126.0.1 last night, and it is STILL crashing on startup. I have uninstalled it, rebooted the tablet, and reinstalled FF, and it STILL crashes.

If a real person is reading this, not your automated response that tells me to do things I CANNOT do and have explained that I cannot do BECAUSE I CANNOT OPEN THE APP, please let me know if you have any useful information. The attached screenshot has been obtained by trying to open the app, then using the 'display all apps' function immediately afterwards.

Hi

I have looked into this and I do not think that Firefox for Android is crashing, more that the variation fo Android on your device is preventing it from starting and running correctly.

If you select the "Basic Service" app the application drawer, then choose app manager and app auto start - does allowing Firefox for Android fix the problem?

Um. I don't have an 'application drawer' or 'app manager', so I can't select 'basic service', whatever that is.

You do not have an icon on the Android homescreen that takes to a screen with all of your apps?

No: I have 'Settings', from which I can select an option to show all my apps, or I can see all the installed/not-installed ones on 'Play Store'. The 'Apps and Notifications' option has a link to 'see all apps', which just gives me a link with the amount of memory/storage used; pressing the Firefox link gives me the attached. (There is a bottom line not shown on that screenshot which is the Build No. - 126.0.1.)

I do have an app called System Manager, which I mainly use for cleaning up junk files periodically. There is an 'App Management' option on that, where the options are Permission Manager, Auto Start Management, Associated Startup, Auto Cleanup, and RAM Fast Startup Boost. Firefox is already selected in Auto Start Management.

Having done some research, it appears that there are a number of changes that Blackview make to Android.

This guide lists some tips that might help you with Firefox for Android:

I've tried everything I can on that page - it says it's for Android 10, & my tablet is running Android 12 - as far as I can find them, and it's still doing exactly the same as it was before. I've even restarted the tablet after doing everything.

I think you may have to contact Blackview about this. Their version of Android has been customised with several system apps, one of which is preventing other apps in some circumstances from running correctly.

Except that until a few months ago, FF was running perfectly OK.
