I have FF-ESR 68.1 for some reason with 2 profiles for me as the only user (see pic and installs.ini and profiles.ini. There is no key3.db in both profiles. I have an older key 3.db file from an elder FF-version with the same passwords, Bookmarks,etc.. But how can I easyly update to the newest Firefox_78.3.1 -ESR - 64 bit and have all my datas (passwords, URLS, etc.) correctly migrated into the updated FF-version? Thanx

Firefox 68 (58+) uses key4.db for the key file just like 78 and there shouldn't be a problem to update from 68 esr to 78 esr although Firefox 72 was the last version that supported migration from key3.db to key4.db. You merely need to transfer a matching logins.json and key4.db.

  • bug 1615382 - All saved passwords can't be decrypted (and don't show in about:logins) if the migration to key4.db didn't succeed
  • bug 1607542 - Stop deleting key3.db in Firefox init
