I have 3042 *.msf files going back to 03/22/2010. I hope I never have to go back to 2013 to check on what I did or did not do in those files. Using Thunderbird 102.2.2, Windows 10 with mail server on Ionos.com using an 8800L Verizon jetpack I get pop ups when I want to quit TB saying TB not responding. Could it be *.msf files are taking up space? Also I think there should be a warning, unless I missed it, when deleting Thunderbird 102.2.2 other day thinking it might help doing a reload so Thunderbird will respond I see where I lost all my junk mails to block. All gone. Looks like I am going to have to start over blocking them. If there is something that will cause something else to occur with deleting *msf files please let me know. Thanks

Perhaps try stopping your anti virus from scanning files and folders in the Thunderbird profile folder. That is the most common cause of "not responding"

> Could it be *.msf files are taking up space?

No. These are necessary files.

If you still have trouble after updating to 102.3.0 and following Matt's info, please post more details.

I just read your message and can hardly wait for 102.3.0 see attached my current version and I have auto upgrade to next. Thanks.

Thanks.

Please note, when posting a support request it is useful to have the primary symptoms cited in the topic title, and less useful to have speculative solutions.

Morning Wayne, I have 102.3.0 as of yesterday and appears problem with earlier version freezing is gone. It is good to be back to a working Thunderbird. Thanks.

With this Windows 10 using Ionos.com and a Verizon 8800L jet pack with Thunderbird version 102.3.3 hour glass freezes up and nothing I can do. I've learned to just go to something else and then back to Thunderbird for hopefully not be still still frozen. Not good.

Same problem I had 10/15/22 and now using 102.4.2 Thunderbird freezes up. I go to internet for other things to do then back to Thunderbird to finish whatever I was doing like checking or deleting emails. A little bid later a message above Thunderbird shows Thunderbird not responding. It is annoying.

Same problem I had 10/15/22 and now Thunderbird 102.5.1 Thunderbird freezes up. I go to internet for other things to do then back to Thunderbird to finish whatever I was doing like checking or deleting emails and deleted emails and freezing is gone. A little bid later a message above Thunderbird shows Thunderbird not responding. Still very annoying.

Did you disable the antivirus mail scanning and anti virus scanning of your profile folder. Very frequently these cause short hangs as Thunderbird can not access it's own data because of scanning.

Matt, Thanks for reply. I have no clue where it is to disable antivirus mail scanning or anti virus scanning of my profile folder. If you tell me where to go I will try but will disabling one or both make my Windows 10 more vulnerable to a virus? Thanks

Matt, I did some searching for word virus in Thunderbird. No luck. I did find below cache having 229mg and while I may not know much 229mg is a lot. Will cleaning cache cause me to lose any of my 30 years of emails. Thanks

emails are not stored in cache. But clearing cache is unlikely to resolve your issue.

That depends on what AV software you are running, which we don't know.

I have no clue what AV software I am running or even if I am running any. as for 229mg as mentioned above those are milligrams it should be 229mb I found where that is not a lot but it is more than 100mb. Thanks

Thunderbird is still freezing up using version 102.6.1 with this Windows 10. Why??????????????????????????

I have to restart TB or go to web to do some other things and going back to TB it works. Why???????????????????????????/

Please start *Windows* in safe mode with networking enabled - https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/12376/windows-10-start-your-pc-in-safe-mode

Does problem go away?

If it helped, then we may have further advice.

Never have I started this Windows 10 in safe mode. How do I start windows in safe mode? Can I guess I open in safe mode and then copy below https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/12376/windows-10-start-your-pc-in-safe-mode into search bar and then what happens or should happen? Thanks I am back to this Support site this morning because I still have problem with updated version of TB like one I have now 102.8.0 (64 bit) freezing.
