I want to only use my startmail account vs gmail. When I set it up, the settings (?) on startmail are not detected and I get an error message. Also, when I attempt to set up my calendar, which setting do I use? Can I select ical because the description of ical sounds like what I want, or is there some email or server setting connected to my computer/internet connection that dictates which setting to use?

HI vleeann99,

What's the error message you get ?

Romain

There is no such thing as a Thunderbird account and if you are not a Mozilla employee you do not have one of those account either.

HI Romain, Thanks! I get the message "Thunderbird cannot find the settings for your email account" as I am entering my name, email address, and password. The company, startmail/startpage are in northern Europe so as not be be spy-able by U.S. gov't. I pay for it, so I'd like to use it, but also want the Lightning calendar feature with Thunderbird/Firefox. Again, thanks for considering the problem.

Also, the setup was smooth with my gmail account. No issue, but I am fleeing and finding replacements for all things Google.

I guess the question could be better phrased to ask whether I can sign into Mozilla the same as with my Thunderbird account, since I have the latter.

The login to this forum has nothing to do with your email account with your provider. Thunderbird is not your provider so as stated earlier you do not have a Thunderbird account.

When Thunderbird cannot find the settings for your account you need to get them from your provider add those settings manually to Thunderbird.

THANKS AIRMAIL! This task almost had me in tears, but alas, I prevailed! I did find the info I needed to configure a service more respectful of my privacy, and that uses my startmail account. With a calendar.
