Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

The error message as reported does not make sense. You need to use a browser to download something. Complaining that the browser is open when you are trying to download is nonsense. If you cannot get a workable installer downloaded, maybe try this Mozilla page:

If it is actually not possible to download Firefox from there, you could try using a download application such as Star Downloader.

Download and save the Firefox installer to the desktop and start the installation with a double-click on the desktop icon.
