My keyboard has stopped typing when focus is on Firefox 18.0.1. Running Windows 8, and all latest updates are installed.... HELP.

Already run a malware/anti-spyware and nothing changed.

Tried to disable all extensions ( only 2) and no results.

Uninstall and cleaned all information from firefox, re-installed and no results.

You said you tried to disable extensions, have you tried disabling add-ons?

It is possible that you have switched the keyboard layout by accident.

Windows remembers the keyboard layout setting per application and you may have changed the keyboard layout by accident via a keyboard shortcut.

  • Make sure that you have the Language bar visible on the Windows Taskbar
  • You can do that via the right-click context menu of the Taskbar: Toolbars > Language Bar
  • Check the keyboard language (keyboard layout) setting for the application that has focus via the icon on the Language bar
  • You need to do that while Firefox has focus because Windows remembers the keyboard layout setting per application
  • The default key combination to rotate the layout is the Ctrl+Shift or Alt+Shift combination that Firefox uses for some menu items
  • To avoid an unintentional switch, assign a specific key sequence (Alt/Ctrl+Shift+number) to select keyboard layouts and remove the key combination to rotate layouts (Alt+Shift or Ctrl+Shift)

  • Control Panel > Regional and Language Options > Keyboards and Languages > Change keyboards > Advanced key settings > Change key sequence

I disable extensions and plugins (all are up to date). No results.

The only solution: restart the laptop. But this problem is happening many times, it gets annoying. Dont see nothing that can explain this problem.

I used firefox for years and never had this problem.

cor-el:

I forgot to refer that I was able to use the keyboard normally in IE, GC. All things normal. The problem is only in firefox (and only sometimes don't know why).

For know restart is the only thing that works.

Hoping for a better solution :(

As I wrote above: Windows remembers the currently selected keyboard layout per application, so it is quite possible that IE and GC still work, but Firefox isn't working anymore in case you switched the layout inadvertently.
