Can TB relocate e-mail attachments to local folder while retaining the original e-mail message?

I have a few e-mails that have very large attachments. In some cases, I no longer need the attachment and so I can delete it. In other cases, however, I simply want to have the attachment moved to a local folder yet have TB retain either a link to it (locally) or some verbiage about the attachment itself (name, file type, etc.). The obvious benefit is that I reduce the amount of space TB is using without losing the attachment.

I had a program in Outlook (I think it was called Lookout) that could do this very thing. But in searching through TB add-ons, as well as TB itself, I find nothing comparable.

Did I just miss it, or is there nothing comparable?

Thanks much.

Ok...it appears that "Detach..." does indeed do what I want (save the attachments and preserving the e-mail).

I guess I just had to ask the question, so...yeah...nevermind.

Thanks!

Wait...I think maybe TBs built-in "Detach..." feature does what I need?

Detach saves the attachments to an Explorer folder and removes them from the message, but there's no link between the message and the attachments. You could rename the attachment with info on the related message, or move the files to a folder named likewise.

If you save the message as an eml file (Ctrl+S), the attachments are included, and then the message can be deleted from TB. If the aim is to reduce space used on an IMAP account, moving the message to Local Folders will remove it from the IMAP server while keeping it on the computer, and available in TB.

sfhowes,

Thanks for the detailed information. I was able to get things figured out on my own, but your input was insightful, and got me to thinking about some other things.

Thanks again.
