I have a folder named "Archive" where I save my most recent emails. I'm using IMAP and recently, I'm not sure how, the Archive folder got moved to be a subfolder of "Deleted Items". So, I created a new folder labeled "Archive2" and moved all the emails back there. However, I am now unable to access the emails in that "Archive2" folder. TB just hangs if I try and see anything in that folder. I'm not sure what I did wrong, but I'd like to be able to access that folder again.

It is big folder (+/--6000) emails and I'm on a slow Internet connection. But, it doesn't even say it's downloading the emails. It just hangs if I try and go to that folder. Accessing any of the other folders does not hang TB. A few days ago, I let the computer run all night and it seemed to download all 6,000+ headers and it started to download content after that. However, it appeared to stop after about 150 emails and now I can see anything in that folder. Any suggestions?

Thanks for your help.

I have no idea about Avast. You'd better ask in an Avast support forum.

In general terms this is what's recommended: Create an exception in your anti-virus software for the Thunderbird profile folder, so that the anti-virus real-time scanner will not scan it. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Thunderbird

Don't let your anti-virus software scan incoming and outgoing messages.

Don't let your anti-virus software scan attachments.

Don't let your anti-virus software intercept your secure connection to the server.

Remove any add-ons your anti-virus software may have installed in Thunderbird.

What is your anti-virus software?

Avast Mac Security. I reinstalled TB and I believe I have all the headers in the folder. Now, it appears to be downloading the emails, although it's *very* slow. It's downloaded about 115 emails in 3 hours. At this rate, it will take me almost a week to download all of them!

I disabled the various 'shields' in Avast (see screen shot attached), quit TB and then relaunched TB but it's still downloading messages *very* slowly. Is there something else I need to do?

Actually, just checked and it's working much faster now. I'm about halfway through my 6000+ emails.

Thanks for the tip. Disabling Avast did the trick!
