Firefox does not close but runs in background, annd will not reopen without going to Task Manager and closing the program then it will reopen

This problem started yesterday. the program looks like it is closed, however when you try to start it a window comes up stating that is is already running but not responding. I have to go into Task Manager it does not show up on programs running, but is on the process tab as running. I end process, and it will run again, but when I close it and again try to use it I get the same.
