When I bookmark a page, it does not show up on the Bookmarks list - Why?

This is on Android Firefox version 37.0.2 running on Android 5.1. When I bookmark a page, I can see it in the History list, but not in the Bookmarks list. My Bookmarks list appears to be 'frozen' somehow.

I once had the old Sync, but have not implemented the new Sync. I don't like Sync, I just want normal Bookmarks. The instructions for 'Unlink all of your devices from the old Sync', are outdated. My Android 5.1 system has nothing for Firefox under Accounts in the Settings.

So how do I 'reset' my bookmarking capability, or remove all vestiges of the old Sync system?
