Firefox does not support the .tif file extension with the QuickTime plugin. I have tried numerous times to get it working properly, but it won't work. I have uninstalled QuickTime and Firefox and also used the regedit.exe program in Windows 7 to remove the remaining files, and then reinstalled everything several times and it just won't work. It always says it's missing the plugin and that I have to install QuickTime, although it is already installed and works properly for everything else (like videos). I have to manually open up the URL for the .tif file in QuickTime to view it and this is a very big inconvenience as I have to do it for each .tif file instead of it properly loading within Firefox. I need this to work correctly so I can review current patents on the United States Patent and Trademark Office website. Currently I need to right click on the patent's page, click "View Page Info," then click on the "Media" tab, find the embedded URL for the .tif file, copy it, open QuickTime, and manually open the URL through QuickTime. I have to do this for every .tif file that is associated with the patents I have to review. Many patents have 30+ .tif files associated with it and trying to view these images the current way it absolutely killing my productivity. It takes me on average about 30 minutes to view each patent and if this worked properly and loaded within Firefox, it would take me about 3 minutes to review each patent, so you can see exactly how much this hurting my productivity. Here is one of the pages that will show you the problem (unless your version of Firefox & QuickTime works properly).

Can you please help me out with this as I would be much more efficient if this would work correctly.

The USPTO used to recommend AlternaTIFF for viewing patent images in the browser. Not sure whether it still does, but you could give it a try.

Same problem with USPTO. Can't seem to find a way around this; how frustrating. I hate having to switch to Explorer to review patent files. Can someone fix this problem?

Hi Niteowl1, did this just start after updating to Firefox 21? If so, could you try the solution in this thread: uspto tiff files worked for years now cannot be viewed.

Did you try the proposed AlternaTIFF TIFF Plug-in?
