Where have the shortcut website links gone?
I know this sounds lame, but where have my icons for websites gone? I guess Firefox updates the browser automatically because I did not update it. And now I log on this morning and my Facebook, Wikipedia, Pandora, etc shortcut icons are gone. I loved having those on my page for quick links. And now it looks like in the update they were all erased.
And the new Facebook extension is too intrusive. I have multiple people who log onto my computer so having all the information on the tool bar will not work for me.
In any case, is there a way to uninstall the latest version of Firefox. It looks like I am working off version 8.0.1.

If you are referring to the favicon used to represent no icon that was changed from a dog-eared white sheet to a square with a dotted outline. I would have put up with it, but with all complaints I can't stand it either and did fix most of it with a style, everything but the Library lists, See
I guess you are referring to missing the bookmarks toolbar for another part of your question. Make sure you have the bookmark toolbar dispayed
- View ("Alt+V") > Toolbars > [x] Bookmarks Toolbar
You can make Firefox 8.0 look like Firefox 3.6.*, see numbered items 1-10 in the following topic Fix Firefox 4.0 toolbar user interface, problems (Make Firefox 4.0 thru 8.0, look like 3.6). Whether or not you make changes, you should be aware of what has changed and what you have to do to use changed or missing features.
There is a lot more beyond those first 10 steps listed, if you want to make Firefox more functional.

If the menu bar is hidden then press the F10 key or hold down the Alt key to make the menu bar appear.
Make sure that toolbars like the "Navigation Toolbar" and the "Bookmarks Toolbar" are visible: "View > Toolbars"
- Open the Customize window via "View > Toolbars > Customize"
- Check that the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is on the Bookmarks Toolbar
- If the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is not on the Bookmarks Toolbar then drag it back from the toolbar palette in the customize window to the Bookmarks Toolbar
- If a missing item is in the toolbar palette then drag it back from the Customize window on the toolbar
- If you do not see an item on a toolbar and in the toolbar palette then click the "Restore Default Set" button to restore the default toolbar set up
