Logins don't sync: master password?

I am using Firefox 70.0.1 on macOS 10.14.6. I have a Firefox account and Firefox is logged in to it. I am not using Firefox on any other machines, and I have previously not synced anything. Firefox has a master password, which I've entered.

I've now installed Lockwise for iOS. It's logged in to my Firefox account.

To sync passwords I: - told Firefox to sync logins via about:preferences (so this is the only thing it's syncing) - forced it to sync now.

I then nuked & restarted Lockwise on the iOS device and ... no passwords.

I've since tried several things to make it sync: - restarted Firefox and told it to sync again; - restarted Firefox, turned off login syncing, synced, restarted again, turned on login syncing, synced; - variations on this.

None of this helps: Lockwise on iOS is convinced I have no passwords.

There are rumours on the net that Lockwise does not work with a master password (which would make it unuseful to me) but they all seem to be just rumours.

What else should I try, or are the rumours correct and it won't work with my setup?

So, I did some experiments. It looks as if, if I delete my Firefox master password, lockwise will work. But I'm unwilling to do that, for fairly obvious reasons (I give a shit about security, unlike Lockwise.

So, well don Mozilla: another useless tool: thanks for wasting my time.
