I cannot access the Ask.com site from within Firefox - after MANY years without any problems. HELP!

more options

I used ASK.com from within Firefox as recently as yesterday. It is my 'go to' search engine. But I can't use it today. I went to the Firefox "Help" forum. None of the answers were clear enough for me to follow (I am a computer USER, not a Techie).

The problem: When I tried to use Ask.com today, I received the following message from Firefox: "An error occurred during a connection to www.ask.com. Invalid OCSP signing certificate in OCSP response. Error code: SEC_ERROR_OCSP_INVALID_SIGNING_CERT".

This error page gave me no options for solving it myself.

One place online suggests using the UPDATE button under the Error message to try and fix it (to get into Ask,com) - but there is not an UPDATE button on this error page from Firefox. The forum suggests disabling OCSP - but the instructions given did not match what I see in Firefox. Pressing the back arrow key did not resolve it (it sometimes has in the past). Worst of all, there is no button for me to press to let Firefox know that I am OK with ASK.com - to bypass this error. I seem to be stuck.....

Anyway....I am using Firefox with Windows 7. I uploaded the latest Windows 'fixes' yesterday and I uploaded the newest version of Firefox today - after receiving the above error message. Today I also did a RESTART and a complete Shut Down. No resolution.

So I am out of luck - no Ask.Com out of Firefox - but I can get it out of other search engines. Please don't make me give up on Firefox - not after all of my years of loyalty.

Please fix it - QUICKLY - or tell me what to do to fix it (in non-techie terms)

HELP!

Regards

Sorry, this seems to be going around. Firefox is giving OCSP errors on various sites that use the Akamai Content Distribution Network:

Coincidentally (?!), www.ask.com also uses that network. However, I'm not currently seeing the problem myself; it could be location specific.

As a temporary workaround, you can disable OCSP stapling. With that change, instead of Firefox expecting sites to provide an OCSP certificate -- a verification that its certificate has not been revoked -- Firefox will query the service provider that signed the certificate. This is good for security but not the best arrangement for privacy, because the service provider knows a computer at your IP address is checking out that site. So after you finish using USPS Ask, you can switch the setting back.

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful or accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste ocsp and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the security.ssl.enable_ocsp_stapling preference to switch the value from true to false

Success?
