Where did you download Firefox from?

Maybe you got a no-official version that was "tweaked" to add that to "new Tab".

Do you have any extensions installed? Or any AOL Plugins?

I used the official Firefox site. Chose the new copy option. Don't have any aol plugins. Thanks for any help.

There was one aol plugin afterall -- removed that and so far the problem hasn't re-occurred. I'm sorry I missed that before.

One new question...under preferences I have selected to show history and suggestions but when I enter the beginning of a url no suggestions show. Only noticed this after upgrading to Sierra on both personal and work MacBooks. Has this been a problem for others?
