Thunderbird does not resize window when display resolution changes

I have a laptop (MBP retina 15" 2012) that I almost always use with a larger but lower resolution monitor (usually 1680x920). Thunderbird displays fine on the external monitor, but if I move it to the laptop's screen - either by using the laptop alone or by moving Thunderbird from the monitor screen to the laptop - Thunderbird displays in a extremely small - unusable - font size. That is, it is not resizing so it adapts to the new display resolution. The only thing I could find in Google was to tweak the setting "browser.display.resolution" setting, but I didn't find it in the preferences editor. Is there a way of making Thunderbird to resize its window resolution dynamically so to adjust for s different display?
