For example, if I use IE, and I search for vanguard in google, and follow the link from google, instead of typing the link in the address bar, history will not remember this, and it won't come up, when I type it in the address bar, in the future. How can I duplicate this in Firefox 8?

From what I understand, you want to essentially not have Firefox remember your History. You can change these settings as follows:

Go to \Firefox\Options\Options; Go to Privacy tab; Under History section, choose "Never Remember History"; Once you're done making the changes, click "Ok".

Alternatively, you can choose "Use Custom Settings for History" and depending on what you want to do, there are several options in that section.

You may find this article on "Clearing Location Bar History" helpful as well.

You can't prevent such followed links from appearing in the history. Firefox stores all visited links.

You can change the behavior of the location bar to only see URLs that you have typed in the drop down list.

You can use Clear Recent History and specify a time range to remove the last visited websites.
