Ihave upgraded to verion six and cannot connect to brouse web pages

I have upgraded to version 6 of Firefox and have installed the program. "About:home" shows in the top search area. The main page that has the large Firefox Icon and search strip does not activate when a web address is entered and the search key is clicked. I have had multiple attempts at re-downloading the upgrade and read the information available on getting started but it will not activate on the main page.
