Is it necessary to install "Lockwise" on PC laptop?

I use Firefox browser on my PC laptop. I have installed Firefox Lockwise on my Android device. I have saved logins and passwords to about 10 different sites. These appear in both my PC laptop and in my Android device. However, when I open an app on my Android device, the username and password are not automatically filled in (as I thought they would be after installing Lockwise on my Android device). Several articles on the web seem to imply that it is also necessary to install Lockwise on the PC laptop? Is this really necessary?

There's even no Lockwise app for desktop, so no.

There used to be a Firefox Lockwise extension for desktop Firefox 67-69. In Firefox 70+ for desktop Lockwise is builtin and you can connect a desktop to a Firefox Account to upload the logins to the Lockwise app on a mobile device connected to the same account.

If you want auto-fill on a mobile device then you need to enable this in the Android settings.

Thank you cor-el for your detailed, concise and easy to understand response and comments. I have Firefox Version 71.0 installed on my PC laptop, and the Firefox app installed on y Android cell phone. I have gone through every step of the 2 articles attached to the response. Everything is set up properly (I am quite sure) until the very last step in the second article, ie "Tap the Lockwise radio button in the AUTOFILL SERVICE menu". When I tap the Lockwise Radio Button on the AUTOFILL SERVICE screen, I get a pop up that says MAKE SURE YOU TRUST THIS APP. LOCKWISE WILL BE ABLE TO SEE WHAT'S ON YOUR SCREEN IN ALL APPS TO DETERMINE WHAT CAN BE FILLED IN AUTOMATICALLY. That all sounds OK and I tapped OK. However, when I tried to use a banking app the password was not automatically filled in. I then went back to the Lockwise app and discovered the Lockwise RADIO BUTTON was not selected and it had reverted to NONE. Even after several attempts to select the LOCKWISE RADIO BUTTON, it always reverted itself to NONE. Therefore I am not able to have my app passwords automatically filled. Do you have a fix for this? Thank you.
