I got a pop-up to do a routine Firefox upgrade. I followed the steps. Now, I no longer get the familiar Firefox opening page from which I can search and launch my usual websites. Instead I get some other opening page that I don't recognize and it doesn't seem to recognize me. So basically, I no longer have easy (or sometimes, I have "no" ) access to my usual sites.

You could provide more information, but I will assume that means you do NOT have an "Old Firefox Data" folder on your desktop.

What does the new home page look like? To find its address, you can right-click (or on Mac you can Ctrl+click) a blank area of the page, call up View Page Info, then copy the address from the dialog and paste it into a reply.

Do you still have your Bookmarks on the Bookmarks menu?

Hmm, do you recall using the Refresh feature during your update? This sometimes is suggested in a bar that says Firefox is starting slowly and you can speed it up by restoring some default settings. If you click that button, your settings and add-ons are removed, and an Old Firefox Data folder is added to your desktop. See anything like that?

What do the new home page look like? I'm attaching an image of the built-in home page for comparison (this is from Firefox 44, but it's very similar today).
