Why would I be advised to go to Control Panel and re-configure Widows XP when I first open Firefox? I have no idea what would have happened to cause this. I don't know how to re-configure my OPERATING SYSTEM from the Control Panel. The solution to all this may be quite elementary, but it seems to me that I ought to have some idea what happened or what needs to be fixed so I can handle this stuff should it ever happen again.

No. The advisory notice appeared only when I re-started Firefox. I've closed it and opened it again and again and it has not re-appeared. So, maybe it isn't crucial, but I am afraid it might be important and I don't want any trouble with my browser of choice or my operating system.
