What is the difference between Adobe Flash Player aand Flash Plug in? Do i need both?

Adobe talks about"Flash Player" while Firefox talks about "Flash Plug-in." Are these the same? In one of my programs (Greeting Card Factory) I keep getting a message that"plug in has crashed." They told me to delete "Flash Player" (which I did) and to reinstall but Adobe won't allow reinstall until I turn off Firefox which I do not know how to do. Currently I have "Flash Player 11 Plug in (V 11.0.1.152)" installed but not "Flash Player." I'm totally confused.
