How can I access my contact list to edit information?

I just had to reinstall Thunderbird on my computer. Somehow after being away for a year and firing up my computer Thunderbird advised best to reinstall. I was able to get some of my contacts but not all. Thought it would be simple to just export my Thunderbird address files from my Windows laptop and import it to my Thunderbird app on my windows computer. Seems obvious and simple but not so for me. The suggested solutions do not work. Am I missing something?
Can I recover my address book, if so how do I do it?

In Firefox, to send an email, you click on the NEW EMAIL button in the tool bar and the email app appears. When you click on the TO button to add email addresses, the AD… (tuilleadh eolais)
In Firefox, to send an email, you click on the NEW EMAIL button in the tool bar and the email app appears. When you click on the TO button to add email addresses, the ADD RECIPIENT page appears and a list of people and their email addresses normally appear.
THERE IS NO LIST OF PEOPLE AND EMAIL ADDRESSES. They have been moved to the PEOPLE folder on the left side tool bar below the top MAIL icon. The email list in the PEOPLE folder is still in tact
My question is how do I correct this error which appears to have happened during an update.
One would think if you highlight the PEOPLE email list it could be moved back to the ADD RECIPIENT list but that does not appear to be possible.
What is the solution????????

I would glad donate to TB Mozilla IF it would work the way it is supposed to. I tried for 3 hours to create a MAILING LIST nut to no avail. The instructions make no sens… (tuilleadh eolais)

Also in my Address book that I imported, phone numbers show up under the heading "email addresses...and I have email showing up at all.

I am looking of the name of a address book I added. I know the\at the main book is called abook.sqlite. I have other sqlite files called abook-1.sqlite, abook-2.sqlite and abook-3.sqlite. What are these file contain? Also where are the other info like "Notes" stored? Are they also in the abook.sqlite file. I am using a DB browser and i don't see that info in the file.
I cannot create a distribution list in Thunderbird because I cannot find the "Distribution List" menu item.
