I used to download my emails from my IP mailbox and read them later. I did this weeks ago but can't find them now. Is there a special way to access them or did I need to do something different to save them before closing TB? Several different files (directories) have not been disturbed but the main email in-box download does not have the previous download of a couple hundred emails.

After thunderbird starts, i see the txt at the lower left "sending login information" followed by "there are no new messages"....but a couples of seconds later, a red dot appears on the blue Tbird icon on the task bar, indicating a number of new messages received....why do these two indicators contradict each other ?

I think this began to happen when I moved my profile from win10 to a new machine on win11. Everything else seems to work fine, but I don't think that txt msg at the lower left after initialization has ever said there are new messages....since moving to the new machine & OS.

Looks like the txt portion of that message is getting information from somewhere different than the red dot on the taskbar icon is ?

Hello- I am having a major problem recovering both emails in my inbox, and more specifically all of my local folders. I am using Windows 11, Pop-3 server. My Local Directory keeps reverting to att-1.net and changes I made to my prefs.js file to eliminate the att-1.net folder and revert to an att-net folder containing all the data are not sticking. I've tried using Claude to diagnose and correct, but that hasn't worked. I am not extremely proficient at this, which is probably part of my problem. Any advice would be welcome.

My email provider is GMX and I have completed 2fa with an app-specific password for Thunderbird. The setup was authenticated.

For Thunderbird, under my email address setup I have included my name, email address (rdoty@gmx.com), the app-specific password for Thunderbird and the personal password for my email account.

Under my account settings I have entered my Account Name as my email address and also for the email address entry. Under Privacy and Security/Saved Passwords they are as follows; imap://gmx.com (imap://gmx.com) along with the app-specific password, but the SMTP does not show and I'm not sure how that gets entered.

The SMTP info is included under Account Settings as follows; Description = GMX Freemail, Server Name = mail.gmx.com, Port=465, Connection Security = SSL/TLS, Authentication Method= Normal Password and Username = rdoty

I did disable Encrypted Web Scan in my AV software Bitdefender

When I select Get Messages Thunderbird always times out and won't connect. What do I need to do to get TB to recognize GMX?

No topic listing above for this Thunderbird Calendar issue. Calendar events disappear completely. I have been scheduling series events using the weekly repeat. Then modifying the few that change. Somewhere the whole series just disappears. Example: PT-Kathleen was input as Monday at 11 to remind 3 day's in advance and repeat for three months. Then I modified several that were scheduled differently. All is good for several weeks then 1 the reminders no longer work. Then the whole series disappears. This has happened for about five of these series and I just put all the stuff back in. But, then that disappears also. Any thoughts things I should setup differently?? tired of redoing things multiple times. Robert Kelly

Hi,

Can you please have a look at the following problem: I decided to re-index my mails. after I realized that the search results did structurally not contain any messages from 2026. I deleted the global-messages-db.sqlite. However, this did not lead to the desired result. After processing some folders, I can see in Activity Manager that the indexing stands still after having processed about 20% of the "Sent Mail" folder of a gmail account. I waited more than 12 hours, but the number of indexed messages did not increase. The file size of the global-messages-db.sqlite at this moment is only 2.3 KB, while the original database was more that 300 MB large.

I already tried the following without success:

  1. restarted TB
  2. deleted the database for the second time
  3. restarted my PC
  4. repaired said "Sent Mail" folder

I am running Thunderbird 140.9.0esr on Windows 11.

Many thanks in advance for your replies.

Thomas

I have been using Thunderbird with two POP3 Hotmail accounts for some time and I am trying to set up a third account with exactly the same configuration. However, both the automatic and the manual configurations failed. The new account receives mail, but the outgoing smtp server config seems to have a problem. Sending messages times out or keeps prompting for a new password.

The Hotmail account has POP3 and IMAP enabled. Thunderbird is set to receive all cookies. I cleared history and cache after every attempt and also temporarily disabled the firewall.

Any suggestions about what the problem could be?

Hello

I just recently purchased a new SSL certificate for our domain from bluehost. Now I get the following error message from Thunderbird.

Configuration not trusted. We received the configuration for your email over a connection that isn't as secure as we'd like. This means there is a tiny chance that someone could have altered it. Double check provided configuration.

I entered my server dashboard and compared the manual email settings and the settings match exactly.

I have paused anti-virus software on both my mobile and laptop and have uninstalled and reinstalled Thunderbird but nothing helped. Contacted Bluehost all is working fine. I can access my email from other clients but not from Thunderbird.

Any thoughts thanks

Attempting to set up a yahoo email in thunderbird 140.9.0esr(64-bit). The goal is to have this set up on multiple workstations, so I've made the adjustments recommended per this article: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/thunderbird-and-yahoo#w_please-check-the-following-before-asking-for-support

So, the toggle for mailnews.oauth.usePrivateBrowser is set to true, site/third-party cookies are always allowed (no exceptions), and the authentication method is set to OAuth2. Using the recommended server settings for yahoo: imap.mail.yahoo.com : 993 smtp.mail.yahoo.com : 465

I am able to set up the initial OAuth. The window pops up, I log in using the account password then put in the texted code, then the window closes and I get an email confirming the login. Hitting done within Thunderbird after this has it check the password again, and it fails: "Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, username or password."

This is on a fresh Windows 11 install/fresh Thunderbird install.

In my work account on a Microsoft Exchange server, we have public keys for all users in LDAP. Sometimes an encrypted email message from a known user fails to decrypt, instead showing a panel with no menu: "Thunderbird cannot decrypt this message". Errors are sporadic: for a few senders, all messages fail to decrypt on my Thunderbird, while for a few other senders, all messages successfully decrypt. For most senders, it seems to randomly depend on the particular message. In one odd case, a chain of replies can be successfully decrypted up to a point, and from there on, all replies fail to decrypt for me. We've looked into all the settings, and we've tried variations where someone sends me an encrypted message without signature, then another with encryption and signature. Nothing seems to consistently cause or avoid the error, it just seems to happen randomly.

Can someone recommend a way to diagnose the problem, for example debug logs?

It would also be helpful to try manually decrypting the raw received message using openssl. Is it possible to find it somewhere in the `~/.thunderbird/` area?

I have been using Thunderbird for ages now with no problem, but I suddenly realised that no recent emails were appearing from my Gmail account. I have tried everything suggested on line to resolve the problem, including uninstalling and reinstalling Thunderbird, and deleting and re-entering my acccount details but neither the IMAP or SMTP servers will connect to Gmail. I have reset all of the server settings on Thunderbird, and have checked that Gmail is IMAP compliant (which, apparently, is is now automatically). I have spent hours trying to sort this out and am just at the point of abandoning Thunderbird completely, but I am loathe to do so if there is a solution. The latest error message i have received is "Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, username or password" but I don't know what else I can check or change.

Whenever I try to search my various emails for some text, at least 40% of the time it shows me the attached message. I'm on Version 149.0.1 but it's been happening ever since I installed Thunderbird (maybe 4 or 5 months ago?) My first move is to check that I haven't mis-spelled the word I'm looking for (which I usually haven't) and I definitely know that the word is valid for one or more emails. So why does this message keep appearing?

Previously I'd been running an old 32-bit version of Thunderbird (which I don't have installed any more) but I don't remember ever seeing this with the older version.
