I opened Firefox this morning and used it for about half an hour. I can't remember why I closed it (or IF I closed it) but when I attempted to reopen I got a blank screen attempting to open my Yahoo homepage, but nothing happened. I force quit and attempted to reopen and nothing happened. I'm on a iMac and the icon on the deck just keeps bouncing. I haven't changed anything and it worked fine earlier. Is there a system problem? Thanks.

I made a fresh, clean install of the most current Firefox 76.0.1. When launching it, it force closes after a few seconds.

There is no Crash Helper popup afterwards.

This issue does not occur with Firefox 74 and previous versions. The issue "does" occur when using the most current Firefox as a PortableApp.

I am running Windows 10 Enterprise (1809), build number 17763.

I'd appreciate any help you can give me, because as it stands, I can't update Firefox.

Windows cannot find C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe I have tried all of the solutions I can find on this forum (downloading all of the free antimalware kits and scanning for malware and allowing my firewall to make an exception for FF) but these have not worked. Strangely I also cannot open any MS Office files either. Use Avast.

Why is Firefox 78 writing to disk constantly? Even when the browser is idle, the hard drive light on my computer blinks non-stop, and I can hear the constant noise coming from the hard drive. The problem is with the browser because the Processor Explorer (available from Microsoft) shows Firefox as doing the constant disk activity, and hard drive stops making noise when the browser is closed.

I manage a WordPress blog and over the last month or so, some of our Firefox users are reporting a forbidden error.

When they access the blog, a small rectangular pop-up box appears that says forbidden. Once they click on the OK inside the box, it disappears and they are then able to access the blog. It doesn't happen when I access the blog through my Firefox browser, but a handful of members are having this issue.

I've researched your help forums, but can’t seem to locate the issue. Can someone help? Thanks.

Context: after upgrading FF I started using the new version the day after. I always set FF to open with the tabs I was using before exiting. When I opened FF I got a bunch of youtube offline notifications as usual. I didn't get twitter offline notifications but this happens from time to time. Eventually notifications from yt stopped but I only noticed it many hours later when I tried to Push notifications on twitter https://twitter.com/settings/push_notifications I got this as a result: Unsupported browser It looks like your browser doesn’t support push notifications. Important most likely: when I was working during the afternoon FF started lagging I got impatient so I ended the heaviest FF process with Windows Task Manager. I could continue working normally. Trying to find a fix on google I ended up here: about:debugging#/runtime/this-firefox#serviceworkers

The YT service worker always shows:

  • Stopped - Not listening for fetch events

But the twitter service worker shows Stopped (if twitter isn't open yet) and 'running' if it is open. However it always shows no matter if it's running or not: Listening for fetch events

In Debugging - runtime Youtube Service worker I clicked: 'Start' (it showed running instead of stopped)+ 'Push'

Tons of offline yt notifications popped up at the right corner of the screen as usual, I did notice though that they were offline, they weren't happening at that moment. After like a minute again showed the same: * Stopped - Not listening for fetch events

For twitter Service Worker it showed it was running so I clicked 'Push' instead of tons of offline notifications from people I follow and followers I got only one notification pop at the bottom from twitter itself saying: New notification, I clicked it and it took me to twitter notifications where all of them are. I tried pushing notifications on here: https://twitter.com/settings/push_notifications but again: Unsupported browser - It looks like your browser doesn’t support push notifications. The Service Worker keeps saying: Listening for fetch events

Is there anything I can do to make it work all the time as it used to? What about doing a FF restore to some days ago? In the past doing that sorta restore helped but with a very different issue. However could it work? Any other fixes that I should try?

The image attached shows a Service Worker for spotify but I never allowed a notification from it, that I can remember? If I did, I never got any.

Firefox has been severely lagging--specifically when switching between windows. For example, I could have one window running nice and fast, but then when I switch to another Firefox window, it is unresponsive for up to 10 seconds. That means no opening tabs, no scrolling, no loading pages, until it becomes responsive again. And this happens just about every time I switch from one Firefox window to another. It's a big problem because multiple windows are an inherent part of my workflow, so I can't wait 10 seconds every time I have to do something in another window.

Here's a very important piece of information: The problem does not happen in Safe Mode. However, Safe Mode is the only way to fix it. I've tried disabling hardware acceleration, disabling all extensions, refreshing FF (creating a new profile), reinstalling it, and the problem always comes back whenever I'm not in safe mode.

I've spent a lot of time on my own trying to solve this, with no luck. Of course, I'd be happy to post any troubleshooting information you may need to help me. Thank you!

Hi all,

I've switched to firefox a few years ago when I noticed Chrome was very ressource-hungry. Plus I liked the smooth scrolling of firefox (feature that wasn't available on Chrome back then).

A few months ago, I started noticing the lack of UI items on random websites. For example, Digikey had the 'datasheet' section in the item page missing, and now I noticed the search box on Fortnine.ca does not work. I had similar issues on other websites too.

Everytime it did not work, I'd try on Chrome, Edge, Opera, and they all worked fine. I tried deleting cookies and website data multiple times, even re-installing Firefox completely, to no avail. I will also mention I use multiple computers, all with the latest Firefox version installed.

I hope someone can help me with this, because I'm on the verge of going back to Chrome!

Thank you all!

I've observed that leaving certain websites open seems to consume an ever-increasing amount of memory in Firefox over time. The large resource usage eventually causes my system to become unusably slow.

For example, I was keeping an eye on Firefox's internal task manager while reading this Encyclopaedia Britannica article. Initially, the page only used about 100 MBs of memory, but as I left the page open longer (~20 minutes) and scrolled down to load more content, it eventually grew to greater than 3 GBs. Since I only have 8 GBs of RAM available on my computer, this causes Firefox (and the computer itself) to become slow and unresponsive until I close the offending tab or Firefox altogether.

Encyclopaedia Britannica isn't the sole website I've observed this sort of high memory usage issue with, but I seem to be able to replicate the issue consistently with some longer articles. Could anyone confirm if they can replicate this behavior? I'm using a relatively new install of Windows 10 and Firefox (with no add-ons installed), but I'd much appreciate it if someone could confirm this isn't something specific to my computer.

I've attached an image of the Windows task manager showing the high RAM usage. I've also attached an image of Firefox's task manager after closing the tab using so much memory to demonstrate that I only have a couple other tabs open, and they are not resource intensive.

Assuming this is an issue with the website, would an AdBlocker or NoScript help to mitigate the resource usage?

After using messenger with no problems for years, yesterday I tried to make calls (audio/video) in messenger and keep getting an error message that my "brower" doen't support them now. I have the latest verion of Firefox 78.02. Anyone else experiencing this?

It asks me to use either Firefox (which I obviously have, or chrome).

I switched to chrome and got the same error message when trying to make a call as well.

Thanks for any help.
