i asked this already but no answer. I have two recovery keys, how can i check which is the one set for my preferred installation of Firefox. One was for my en-CA install, the other for an en-US install made a week later due to an update glitch. I had to use my en-CA recovery key to recover my settings to the en-US install, which then made a new recovery key.

I want to get rid of the spurious en-US install. -en-CA is in it's original location c:\program files\mozilla firefox

-en-US is in "C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" the directory trees appear the same except en-CA has a locale.ini file that the other does not.

Does the original recovery key STILL apply to the -en-CA install or has the -en-US install's key replaced it.

And can I delete the -en-US folder with consequences?

Can you add a configuration setting to Mozilla Firefox to disable Create New Profile, configurable in the policies.json file? (A second option but a much uglier one would be to disable being able to select a file location for a new profile. Then you could make the default profile directory write only, which would also accomplish the same thing.) (A third option would be to able to configure extensions by default upon installation in the ExtensionSettings policy.)

To explain, I use LeechblockNG on Firefox on Ubuntu. Very helpful. By placing a policies.json file (see at bottom) in /etc/firefox/policies/ directory, I can create a system wide policy. I can make the LeechblockNG extension mandatory and to be installed upon every new profile creation. That all works very well. HOWEVER, there is NO way to be able to set those options in the new profile. So LeechblockNG is installed with default options (which are no blocking at all), which effectively bypasses the addon.

I am also writing the author of the leechblock extension to see if there is any way to set the options for leechblock upon installation (the third option above).

But I know other people have this same question, and at present, if I am correct, there is no way to block new profile creation, or the Profile Manager window in Firefox.

So could you please add that option to the Firefox policies.json configuration? Something like "DisableNewProfiles": true would do it.

Thanks!

My current policies.json file in /etc/firefox/policies/ directory: { "policies": { "BlockAboutConfig": true, "BlockAboutProfiles": true, "PrivateBrowsingModeAvailability": 1, "DisableSafeMode": true, "ExtensionSettings":{ "*": { "installation_mode": "blocked", "blocked_install_message": "Prohibited install more extensions." }, "leechblockng@proginosko.com": { "installation_mode": "force_installed", "install_url": "https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/downloads/file/4374316/leechblock_ng-1.6.6.xpi" } } } }

I get what looks like a DoS attack every day at 7:43. It disables my PC for about 10 minutes. I have traced it a Mozilla task using the task scheduler. The scheduler provides the following information:

The Background Update task checks for updates to Firefox when Firefox is not running. This task is installed automatically by Firefox, and is reinstalled when Firefox runs. To disable this task, update the browser settings or the Firefox enterprise policy setting “BackgroundAppUpdate”.

I have gone into settings but can't find the BackgroundAppUpdate setting to see if disabling this task will solve the problem. Any idea where it is?

I am having Sync issues. Computer 1 (Macbook Air 2011) and Computer 2 (Macbook Air 2015) were synced just fine. Yesterday I bought Computer 3 (Macbook Air 2024) and when I downloaded firefox onto Computer 3 the bookmarks looked like things associated with me at some point they were not mirroring Computers 1 and 2. I did forget my password so went to Computer 1 which was the first to create my firefox account and reset my password. I then made sure I was logged in on all 3 computers. Computer 2 then decided to mirror/sync to the new Computer 3 losing all my bookmarks instead of Computer 3 mirroring Computers 2 and 1. Computer 1 stayed just fine with the bookmarks I want so I disabled sync on Computer 1 to not lose all the bookmarks. I can see that because Computer 1 is old Firefox is up to date but on a different version running 78.15.0es. Computers 2 and 3 are running 133.0.3.

I am hoping someone has info on how I can get my original bookmarks from Computer 1 back onto Computer 2 and 3

Any and all help is much appreciated

28Dec2024

I've been using FireFox to login to nytimes.com for many years. Recently, the nytimes.com website hasn't been working properly. It works fine using Edge.

Symptoms are: (1) The zoom level at login and the zoom on going from page to page is very inconsistent. (2) Clicking the Account button does not open the account settings page. Instead it causes the screen background to become grey.

I restarted FireFox in troubleshooting mode, but this did not improve the behavior. I have a single extension (Adblock). Disabling Adblock on nytimes.com also did not improve things.
