How do I make the "Authentication Required" dialog not block all the Firefox tabs?

There are some websites that require authentication (username and password) via a pop-up window - "Authentication Required. Unfortunately, when that window pops up I can't use any of the other tabs in Firefox unless I type the credentials in or close it.

Closing it is not a good workaround all the times, as it issues an HTTP Error 401 Unauthorized leading to weird behaviors of the sysadmin/webmaster.

PS: this can also be an exploit if you have the "Restore last session" enabled. Your Firefox will be unusable if a website provides an infinite loop of "Authentication required" dialogs (i.e. 401 Unauthorized is also linked to an "Authentication required" dialog)
