Although box is ticked Firefox no longer warns me when closing multiple tabs in Vista. I really miss this excellent feature.

Hello OneTrueFriend, be sure do not run Firefox in permanent Private Browsing , go from Firefox button > Options > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history", UNcheck Always use private browsing mode

OR in Firefox will is set to Never remember history (it is the same as private browsing)

thank you

You can check the warn pref(s) on the about:config page.

  • browser.tabs.warnOnCloseOtherTabs

If you use "Show my windows and tabs from last time" then Firefox also won't ask when closing the window.

  • Tools > Options > General > Startup: "When Firefox Starts": "Show my windows and tabs from last time"

Thanks.

I have not changed any settings. Only close tabs reminder has changed, and I didn't change it. History is set, as always, to remember history. Am not on permanent private browsing. Was unable to find this setting, but have no recollection of ever setting it. Would have ticked "do not track me".

Have always used "Show windows and tabs from last time" and close tabs warning worked fine with it.

The behavior when you use "Show windows and tabs from last time" might have changed over time.
You can also check for problems caused by an extension.

Does it help if you set browser.showQuitWarning to true?

I strongly suspect, although I could be wrong, that an add on is the most likely cause. Sorry, but I don't know how to set browser show quit warning to true. Am nervous about tinkering around with the system. Will check out your troubleshooting link, for which many thanks.

  1. In the Location bar, type about:config and press Enter. The about:config "This might void your warranty!" warning page may appear.
  2. Click I'll be careful, I promise!, to continue to the about:config page.
  3. type (or copy/paste from here) browser.tabs.warnOnCloseOtherTabs
  4. double-click on it to make it TRUE (if there isn't true already)

do the same with :

  • browser.showQuitWarning
  • browser.tabs.warnOnClose
  • browser.warnOnQuit

thank you

Hi Sincere apologies for delay in getting back. Had to go away for a few days but before I went away I just had time to remove my last add on. Wanted to see if this would make any difference, as I had a strong suspicion that an add on was to blame. Anyhow, removed the Turn The Lights Out add on and everything has been working fine since. Only back today so I will keep an eye on it for a few days more, but everything seems to be back to normal. Would like to thank you most sincerely for all the trouble that you took, and all the help you unstintingly gave. It is fantastic to think that people are so willing to give of their time and their experience to help others. Thanks again and very best wishes.
