When I try to update Firefox on my Mac, I get a message that I don't have permission to access some of the items. How can I fix this?

I am using Mac OS X 10.6.7, and Firefox 3.6.13. I keep getting messages to update. The update process never connects to the server, even if left overnight. When I try to manually download and install Firefox, I get a message saying :the operation can't be completed because you don't have permission of access some of the items. It does not ask me for the administrative password, which I have. This compute lives in my office and I am the only one who uses it.

If you get an error message that you do not have sufficient permissions or have other problems with updating to update then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.

Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the DMG file to the desktop

  • Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
  • Install the new version that you have downloaded
