My bookmarks keep vanishing each time I close Firefox and I have to restore them from a file any solutions?

I am running W7 on a laptop and just in the last week I have had to restore my bookmarks each time I use Firefox. This has not been a problem until now and I have been a Firefox user with a desktop PC and laptop for some years. Also there is an issue with Firefox saving history even though I have set the option to never remember history.

It sounds like the places.sqlite file is corrupt. See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Locked_or_damaged_places.sqlite
