my computer was not connected to the internet when I turned it on it said it had an update for firefox.how is this possible

I turned on my computer unaware that the internet cord was not attached.I clicked on modzilla firefox to open browser.It first had an update to download.So I let it run then the modzilla firefoxbrowser opened and said unable to connect.Is this right? Did I down load a update from firefox?
