when downloaded firefox displays many shortcuts etc on desktop if i delete them i lose firefox connection and have to do it all again how can i lose them and still keep firefox

What are the names of the files created on the desktop? If they include places.sqlite, prefs.js and extensions.ini you will have setup Firefox to store the user profile on the desktop.

If you have got the profile on the desktop, follow the instructions on the following link, paying attention to the warnings about not choosing the option to delete files - http://kb.mozillazine.org/Files_created_on_startup
